Nosemonkey's EUtopia

In search of a European identity

  1. I would like to see a real, democratic constitution, drafted by the European Parliament or an elected assembly, offered to us Europeans, with a pan-European referendum deciding on the new European Union.

Possible unwilling electorates would stay outside the federation, and their governments would negotiate their ties with the new Union.

With a short and clear constitution, democratic accountability, working government and recognisable personalities both media and citizens would be able to follow and participate.

The result would look more like constitutional patriotism than the demonizing kind shown by British tabloids, but state level democracy would live on.
