Down to the wire, no obvious majority, and suggestions even appearing that Schr\u00ef\u00bf\u00bdder and Merkel should team up and form a coalition &#8211; much like Labour teaming up with the Tories. Yet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dw-world.de\/dw\/article\/0,1564,1713767,00.html\">both wannabe Chancellors have claimed victory<\/a>, and neither is likely to want to compromise over their fairly significant political differences. It&#8217;s all gone a bit mad, in other words.<\/p>\n<p>Best place for all the excitement appears to be <a href=\"http:\/\/service.spiegel.de\/cache\/international\/0,1518,375257,00.html\">Der Spiegel&#8217;s election liveblog<\/a> (hat tip to <a href=\"http:\/\/matgb.livejournal.com\/\">MattGB<\/a> in a comment here earlier this evening) and their <a href=\"http:\/\/service.spiegel.de\/cache\/international\/0,1518,k-6712,00.html\">special section on the elections<\/a>, with Deutsch Welle&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.dw-world.de\/wahlgrafik\/index.php?lang=en\">funky graphic thing<\/a> also worth a quick look. Its exit poll is currently (10:30pm) showing 1% in it &#8211; or a two seat difference &#8211; nowhere near enough for any one party to comfortably take charge. (Of course, a 1% difference in Britain can be enough to give a 60 seat overall majority&#8230; But more on that, no doubt, some other time.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fistfulofeuros.net\/\">Lots of good stuff at Fistful<\/a> as per usual.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, well, well.
