What is needed is an understanding that if European states don&#8217;t hang together they will hang separately &#8211; and that because the European Union is the best we have, we&#8217;d better make it work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/eu\/story\/0,7369,1297705,00.html\">more Russian aftermath<\/a> &#8211; a sensible question from Dutch Foreign Minister <a href=\"http:\/\/encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com\/Bernard%20Bot\">Bernard Bot<\/a> about how the massacre was allowed to take place prompted rabid vitriol from his Russian opposite number, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ln.mid.ru\/bl.nsf\/0\/d2da2ea4fd6ac214c3256e530042edfd?OpenDocument\">Sergey Lavrov<\/a>, who accused Bot of &#8220;blasphemy&#8221;. The rest of the EU&#8217;s foreign ministers currently seem to be scrabbing around to salvage the situation.
