Some highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.rian.ru\/rian\/index.cfm?prd_id=160&amp;msg_id=5479047&amp;startrow=1&amp;date=2005-03-28&amp;do_alert=0\">10,000 protest against the President of Bashkortostan, an autonomous republic in the Volga region, hoping to emulate Kyrgyzstan<\/a>. Last month, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mosnews.com\/news\/2005\/01\/21\/blagoves.shtml\">hundreds of protestors were arrested and beaten<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.spb.ru\/archive\/times\/1056\/news\/n_15257.htm\">Protests too in the Russian republic of Ingushetia against Putin&#8217;s man in charge<\/a><\/li>\n<li>And even Ukraine&#8217;s Orange Revolution isn&#8217;t necessarily safe, as <a href=\"http:\/\/mosnews.com\/news\/2005\/03\/25\/marinesukraine.shtml\">Russian marines &#8220;accidentally&#8221; invade the Crimea<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Perhaps in response to these recent popular protests, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rferl.org\/features\/features_article_old.aspx?id=7f6e83eb-8153-4487-be94-7a582c629cc5&amp;y=2005&amp;m=3\">Putin is also threatening to withdraw Russia&#8217;s contributions to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe unless it drops its emphasis on democracy and human rights<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> After the surprise events in Kyrgyzstan, which not a single &#8220;expert&#8221; on the region managed to predict the outcome of, any of these could turn out to be something major&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>However, the one from Siberian Light&#8217;s excellent roundup that is most likely to make the news: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.interfax.ru\/e\/B\/politics\/28.html?id_issue=11262609\">Moscow has invited North Korean maniac Kim Jong Il to celebrate the 60th anniversary of VE Day in Moscow<\/a>. US President George W Bush has <a href=\"http:\/\/inatoday.com\/bushvemoscow22805.htm\">already confirmed he will be attending<\/a>.
