That&#8217;s \u00ef\u00bf\u00bd4,900,000,000 &#8211; a lot of zeros.<\/p>\n<p>Would you look at that? This money could have been used to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.no2id.net\/news\/newsblog\/index.php?p=58\">fund ID cards<\/a> for every citizen, and still leave the government with at least \u00ef\u00bf\u00bd1.965 billion change.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the defence budget is being increased by \u00ef\u00bf\u00bd400 million. That <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhcw.nhs.uk\/new_hospital\/Default.htm\">could have paid for a new &#8220;super-hospital&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Taken as a whole, that \u00ef\u00bf\u00bd4.9 billion could have paid, let&#8217;s face it, for a whole load of nice stuff. How about a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0000TEV88\/ref=amb_center-3_192797_2\/026-7483994-4434028\">digital set-top box<\/a> for every British citizen plus change for a couple of pints? Actually, sod the digital box &#8211; how about 33 pints each?<\/p>\n<p>They haven&#8217;t quite got the right idea, this government. Who cares about far-off lands of which we know nothing?
