{"id":1808,"date":"2008-07-25T15:40:01","date_gmt":"2008-07-25T15:40:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jcm.org.uk\/blog\/?p=1808"},"modified":"2008-07-25T15:43:00","modified_gmt":"2008-07-25T15:43:00","slug":"lessons-from-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jcm.org.uk\/blog\/2008\/07\/lessons-from-scotland\/","title":{"rendered":"Lessons from Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 25th July 1603 King James VI of Scotland was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westminster-abbey.org\/history-research\/monuments-gravestones\/royalty\/12318\">crowned King James I of England<\/a>, sparking many of the ongoing resentments about Scottish power in England and English power in Scotland that are continuing to this day.<\/p>\n<p>On 25th July 2008, Labour lost to the Scottish Nationalist Party in the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/uk_politics\/7524003.stm\">Glasgow East by-election<\/a>, giving the Scottish independence movement a handy boost.<\/p>\n<p>1603, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historylearningsite.co.uk\/James-I-favourites.htm\">resentment of influential Scots<\/a>; 2008, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scottish_mafia\">resentment of influential Scots<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>405 years with the same rulers &#8211; and 301 years since the Act of Union brought the two countries together as one &#8211; and yet Scottish\/English national identity is as strong as ever. The only difference? We no longer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.datesofhistory.com\/England-Scotland-War-Scotland.event.html\">invade and kill each other<\/a> when we get miffed.<\/p>\n<p>Lesson learned?
