{"id":1747,"date":"2008-04-02T10:24:07","date_gmt":"2008-04-02T10:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jcm.org.uk\/blog\/?p=1747"},"modified":"2008-04-02T10:24:07","modified_gmt":"2008-04-02T10:24:07","slug":"blogger-becomes-finnish-foreign-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jcm.org.uk\/blog\/2008\/04\/blogger-becomes-finnish-foreign-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Blogger becomes Finnish Foreign Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congrats <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alexstubb.com\/en\/index.php\">Alex Stubb MEP<\/a> (yes, he of the website full of really bizarre photos) on his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/news\/world\/europe\/article3661161.ece\">recently-announced promotion<\/a> following the highly entertaining <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/main.jhtml?xml=\/news\/2008\/04\/02\/wfinn102.xml\">mobile phone sex scandal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That makes two Scandinavian countries with bloggers as Foreign Ministers (the other being Sweden&#8217;s Calr Bildt, formerly of <a href=\"http:\/\/bildt.blogspot.com\/\">Bildt Comments<\/a> fame). With <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.fco.gov.uk\/roller\/miliband\/\">David Miliband<\/a> doing the blogging Foreign Secretary thing for the UK, does this mean that Britain is finally acknowledging our northern heritage?<\/p>\n<p>Let face it, us Brits are all pretty much Scandinavian when you get down to it &#8211; the Angles (of Anglo-Saxon fame) were pretty much from Denmark, the Normans were originally Vikings (the name coming from &#8220;Norse men&#8221;, or something), and most of the north of England was under Scandinavian rule for centuries.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, of course, we&#8217;ve got the Scandinavian booze habit.
