The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/11\/23\/world\/europe\/23dutch.html?_r=1&#038;ref=europe&#038;oref=slogin\">New York Times<\/a> reckons the country will swing to the left, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2006\/11\/22\/AR2006112200279.html?nav=rss_world\/europe\">Washington Post<\/a> sees a vote in favour of the pre-elections centre-right government with a marked rise for extreme parties on either side of the political spectrum, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/en\/agenda2004\/\/article-159939\">EurActiv<\/a> sees a political dead heat marked largely by a rise in votes for anti-EU and anti-immigration parties.So, anyone care to enlighten me? All the English-language Dutch political blogs I used to read seem to have died&#8230; What&#8217;s going on, and what are the implications?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> Ah! Here we go &#8211; Guy of <a href=\"http:\/\/non-tibi-spiro.blogspot.com\/\">Non Tibi Spiro<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/fistfulofeuros.net\/archives\/002769.php\">an informed roundup over at Fistful<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update 2:<\/strong> And now former Europe Minister <a href=\"http:\/\/commentisfree.guardian.co.uk\/denis_macshane\/2006\/11\/post_685.html\">Denis MacShane&#8217;s in on the act<\/a>, with a surprisingly sensible overview ruined by a thoughtlessly stupid attack on Proportional Representation at the end &#8211; already countered by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.makemyvotecount.org.uk\/blog\/archives\/2006\/11\/netherlands_ano.html\">Make My Vote Count<\/a>, just as they countered MacShane&#8217;s previous attacks on PR <a href=\"http:\/\/www.makemyvotecount.org.uk\/blog\/archives\/2006\/11\/netherlands_ano.html\">after the German elections last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update 3:<\/strong> And now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/agenda\/displayStory.cfm?story_id=8325991&#038;fsrc=RSS\">The Economist&#8217;s on the case<\/a>, arguing the results show the rise of the far right and a clash with Islam. Odd&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update 4:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/djnozem.blogspot.com\/2006\/11\/dutch-elections-picking-up-pieces.html\">Nanne&#8217;s back with more<\/a> &#8211; damn good stuff. I still don&#8217;t understand what the hell&#8217;s going on, but then it doesn&#8217;t look like anyone does.
