Looks like a margin of less than 0.1% of the popular vote on an 83% turnout (via the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.italymag.co.uk\/2006\/news-from-italy\/current-affairs\/uncertainty-about-final-election-result-in-italy\/\">Italy Magazine blog<\/a>). Which only prompts the question, &#8220;what Italian in their right mind would want to see Berlusconi back in power?&#8221; I mean yes, <a href=\"http:\/\/europhobia.blogspot.com\/2005\/10\/berlusconi-just-call-me-il-duce-oh.html\">he&#8217;s great entertainment value<\/a> (from a distance), but really&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In any case, it may still not be over, despite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurotrib.com\/story\/2006\/4\/10\/212450\/449\">excitement in the early hours of this morning<\/a> &#8211; even after Romano Prodi has claimed victory for the centre-left coalition, Tobias Schwarz at Fistful notes that with a margin of (apparently) just 25,000 votes, Berlusconi could <a href=\"http:\/\/fistfulofeuros.net\/archives\/002478.php\">demand a recount<\/a>, which could well take the rest of the week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, full-on lefty Lenin (the name&#8217;s a clue, you see?) analyses <a href=\"http:\/\/leninology.blogspot.com\/2006\/04\/skin-of-teeth.html\">what a centre-left Prodi victory could mean for Italy<\/a> (he&#8217;s not overly optimistic), while Italian in London Davide Simonetti looks at <a href=\"http:\/\/nether-world.blogspot.com\/2006\/04\/bye-bye-berlusconi-hopefully.html\">the wider implications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More later, if I get a chance and things get finalised&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.makemyvotecount.org.uk\/blog\/archives\/2006\/04\/good_luck_mr_pr.html\">Good stuff on the possible implications<\/a> from Paul Davies at Make My Vote Count, and also over at <a href=\"http:\/\/crookedtimber.org\/2006\/04\/10\/eppur-si-muove\/\">Crooked Timber<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday update:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iq.harvard.edu\/blog\/pb\/2006\/04\/fear_and_loathing_on_the_itali_2.html\">Another good post-match analysis<\/a>, plus a very handy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.electionresources.org\/it\/\">statistical overview<\/a> and explanation of the insanely complex Italian electoral system, complete with maps and diagrams (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.makemyvotecount.org.uk\/blog\/\">via<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>God damn, this has been tight.
