Hardly a surprise<\/a> – after all, the US remains a close ally even with all the various policy disagreements. Rather shows up official denials of any knowledge of “extraordianry rendition” though, eh?<\/p>\n

“EU governments have \u00ef\u00bf\u00bdcollaborated, tolerated or looked away\u00ef\u00bf\u00bd from secret CIA operations on European soil, a high-profile investigation is set to conclude next week.<\/p>\n

“Dick Marty, the Swiss senator who is leading a Council of Europe inquiry into clandestine CIA detention centres and flights, is set to conclude his probe on January 23…<\/p>\n

“‘For two or three years countries knew exactly what was going on,… Some countries actively collaborated, some tolerated while others simply looked away.’\u00ef\u00bf\u00bd<\/p>\n

\u00ef\u00bf\u00bd…’It’s not possible to transport people from one place to another in such a manner without the secret services knowing about it,’ the senator insisted.<\/p>\n

Update:<\/b> The BBC<\/a> had something on this on Saturday, but I missed it. Weekend, and all that. There’s been little interest shown elsewhere that I’ve noticed in any case, which is a tad odd.
